Tasha Cobbs Leonard is set to release a new live album, Tasha Unscripted, on Sept. 11 via Motown Gospel/Capitol Christian Music Group.
The new album captures a live worship concert that took place in Atlanta earlier this year. That live concert served as a musical canvas to allow songs to be shaped through new arrangements, as Cobbs Leonard also welcomed several guest performers, including Mickey Guyton, Jonathan McReynolds, Karen Clark Sheard, Kierra Sheard-Kelly, William Murphy and Israel Houghton.
Ahead of the album release, Cobbs Leonard is releasing a preview of the project with “Gracefully Broken/Who The Son Sets Free (Live),” featuring Houghton, along with an official video.
The project follows her 2025 album TASHA, which marked her first studio album, following years of releasing live albums. That project debuted atop Billboard’s Top Gospel Albums, Current Gospel Album and Top Christian/Gospel Album charts and was infused with Gospel, R&B, pop, roots and hip-hop sounds. TASHA also contained the No. 1 Billboard Gospel Airplay hit “Church,” which featured John Legend. To date, Cobbs Leonard has seen 10 songs hit the pinnacle of the Gospel Airplay chart.
Tasha Unscripted is Cobbs Leonard returning to her wheelhouse, performing before a live audience and welcoming the crowd into a time of worship.
“After stepping into a quieter, more intimate creative space with TASHA, I felt called back to the room, to the kind of night where you cannot predict what God will do next,” Cobbs Leonard said in a statement. “TASHA Unscripted captures what happened when we made space for the songs to breathe and for people to respond in real time. There was so much freedom in that room, and I’m excited for everyone to finally experience it, both on the album and on tour.”
Beyond the new album, Cobbs Leonard will be honored with the Aretha Franklin icon award at the 41st Stellar Gospel Music Awards on Aug. 15; she is also nominated for six trophies during the Stellar Awards, including artist of the year, album of the year and Albertina Walker female artist of the year. At the upcoming GMA Dove Awards, Cobbs Leonard has three nominations, including the categories of Contemporary Gospel album of the year, Contemporary Gospel recorded song of the year and Traditional Gospel recorded song of the year.
She will launch the Unscripted Nights Tour this fall, including stops in Charlotte, Atlanta and New York.
